GOOD TO KNOW

This page is a format decision guide. It does not promise a particular match or compare participant availability; those questions belong to the random chat guide.

TEXT

Choose text for a slower pace and no device access

Text gives both people time to read and respond. It works on a quieter connection and does not need camera or microphone permission. Written messages can still be copied, screenshotted, or used to send deceptive links.

AUDIO

Choose audio when tone matters more than the frame

Voice adds timing, laughter, and tone without showing your face or surroundings. Audio requires microphone permission, uses more attention than text, and may still reveal age, accent, background noise, or other identity clues.

VIDEO

Choose video when facial expression adds value

Video can make the exchange feel more immediate, but it reveals the most. Check the background, remove identifying items, and remember that another participant controls their own device and may capture the screen.

DECISION

Use the least exposure that still fits the moment

Start with the format you are genuinely comfortable using—not the one that seems most impressive. You can leave and choose again if the room, connection, or conversation changes.

  • Text: lowest hardware access and easiest pace to control.
  • Audio: voice and tone without a camera frame.
  • Video: the richest context and the greatest visual exposure.

QUICK ANSWERS

What people usually ask.

Which mode is best for a first visit?

There is no universal best mode. Text offers the least hardware access, while video provides the most visual context. Choose the amount of presence you actually want.

Can I change from video to text?

Leave the current route and enter matching again to choose another available format. KnotCam does not add a second mode selector on the landing page.

Does the homepage ask for permission?

No. KnotCam keeps camera and microphone requests inside matching, after you choose the relevant mode.
