GOOD TO KNOW

Microphones can capture people, media, and private conversations elsewhere in the room. Mute or leave when you do not intend to transmit audio.

WHEN IT IS NEEDED

Audio and video need the microphone

Text mode continues without hardware access. Audio requests microphone permission. Video requests both microphone and camera permission after you select it inside matching.

NO SOUND

Check permission and the selected input

Allow microphone access in the browser site controls, select the correct input device, and make sure the operating system has not muted or blocked the browser.

POOR SOUND

Reduce echo and background noise

Use headphones, lower speaker volume, move away from fans, and place the microphone closer to your voice. Close recording or meeting apps that may hold the same input.

QUICK ANSWERS

What people usually ask.

Can I use video without a microphone?

The native video mode requests both devices because a live video conversation normally includes sound. Choose text if you do not want microphone access.

Why is the wrong microphone active?

The browser or operating system may remember a previous default. Select the intended device in the browser or system sound settings, then reload.
